No, This Video Doesn’t Show July Uprising’s Emdad Telling Hindus to Leave the Country

Recently, a video of a man circulated on social media with the claim that he threatened Hindus in his speech.

You can see the post spreading the claim on X here.

Fact-check

Rumor Scanner’s investigation found that the person in the video is Saifuddin Mohammad Emdad, who lost one eye after being shot during the July uprising.

In the video, Emdad did not issue any ultimatum for Hindus to leave the country. Instead, his one-week ultimatum was directed at individuals who attacked students during the uprising. His comments had no relation to threatening the Hindu community.

Further investigation shows that on September 28, 2024, the full version of Emdad’s speech was uploaded on Facebook. He delivered this speech at a remembrance and cultural evening organized by Bikiran Chattogram Metropolitan at CRB, Chattogram, honoring the families and fighters of the July Revolution.

The full seven-minute speech makes it clear that his remarks were aimed at conspirators, not Hindus. The viral video was created by selectively cutting parts of his statement before and after the actual ultimatum. Reviewing the entire speech confirms that he did not threaten Hindus but specifically addressed those responsible for attacking students during the uprising.

It is worth noting that in October 2024, when the same claim was circulated with this video, Rumor Scanner already published a fact-check clarifying the matter.
