Fact-Check
According to an investigation by the Rumor Scanner team, the claim that “the UN instructed Dr. Muhammad Yunus to resign” is false. The rumor originated from the dubious Shadhin Bangladesh website, which misquoted a non-existent Al Jazeera report. The claim was further spread on social media through unreliable sources.
Upon reviewing the posts, it was found that the link leading to the claim pointed to Shadhin Bangladesh (archived here), which cited Al Jazeera as the source of the information.
Rumor Scanner had already debunked a similar claim on its Bengali website months ago, confirming that no such directive had been issued by the UN.
Furthermore, no reputable news outlets, including Al Jazeera, reported any such directive regarding Dr. Yunus’s resignation.
Hence, the claim that the UN ordered Dr. Yunus to resign is completely false.
