“Recently, a video depicting an attack and vandalism at an event was circulated on social media, with the claim that ‘Muslims attacked a Hindu event in Bangladesh.”

See the Facebook post circulated with this claim here (Archive).
Fact-Check
The Rumor Scanner team investigated and found that the video circulated does not show an attack by Muslims on a Hindu event. Instead, it depicts an attack at the Milad Mahfil, prayer session, and Sama Qawwali event of Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Kalu Shah (R.A.) in Mymensingh. This scene has been falsely circulated under the mentioned claim.
The analysis of the claim found no credible evidence to support the narrative presented in the circulated post. Further investigation led to a Facebook post made on January 9 by an account named Salman Sadik Shawon. The post can be seen here.

A comparison of the video from this post with the circulated video revealed significant similarities.
According to the caption of the post, it states:
“The 119th Milad Mahfil, prayer session, and Sama Qawwali event of Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Kalu Shah (R.A.) was underway at Thanaghat in Mymensingh, an annual tradition observed with devotion. During the event, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) and police personnel from the nearby station abruptly intervened, turning off the sound system and forcibly removing the artists and musicians from the stage. Shortly after, a group of enraged clerics stormed in, wreaking havoc and dismantling the setup within minutes before departing. Despite the chaos, no harm was inflicted on the audience or spectators.”
Additionally, a news report published on January 9 by the mainstream media outlet My TV featured a screenshot from the same video. The report titled ‘Attack and Vandalism at Qawwali Event in Mymensingh’ is available here.
The news report states: “An attack and vandalism occurred at the Milad Mahfil, prayer session, and Qawwali event of Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Kalu Shah (R.A.) in Mymensingh Sadar. The incident took place on Wednesday, January 8, at around 9:30 PM on the banks of the Brahmaputra River at Thanaghat in the city. A video of the attack began circulating on social media around 11 PM, sparking widespread public reactions. The video shows approximately a hundred individuals storming the event venue, vandalizing the stage, sound system, and over a hundred chairs. Mizan Baula, one of the artists managing the event, said, “For the past 45 years, the Milad Mahfil and Qawwali event has been conducted here peacefully. Such an incident has never occurred before. However, this time, a group of clerics from the nearby mosque and madrasa arrived during the event and started vandalizing. Several people were injured, and panic spread.”
The Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, Shafiqul Islam Khan, said:
“The students of Boro Mosque Jamia Faizur Rahman (R.A.) Madrasa carried out the vandalism at the Qawwali event. However, the situation was brought under control with police intervention. He stated, “Although chairs and the stage were vandalized, no reports of serious injuries have been received. The reasons behind the incident are being investigated. Tension prevails in the area following the incident. Locals have condemned the attack on this long-standing traditional event and demanded punishment for the perpetrators.”
A similar report was published on January 9 on the Daily Ittefaq website, which included footage from the same incident. The report can be accessed here.
Additionally, Prothom Alo published a report on January 14, which confirms the same details and mentions that the district administration imposed Section 144 in the Thanaghat area surrounding the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Kalu Shah (R.A.). The Prothom Alo report can be found here.
Conclusion
The scene of the attack at Hazrat Shah Sufi Syed Kalu Shah’s (R.A.) Milad Mahfil, prayer session, and Sama Qawwali event in Mymensingh has been falsely portrayed as an attack by Muslims on a Hindu event in Bangladesh. The claim is entirely baseless and false.
