Claims of two new features being launched on the social media platform Facebook have recently spread. One claim states that from now on, if a user visits another’s profile, Facebook will send a notification to the profile owner. Another claim states that if someone takes a screenshot of someone’s story, the story owner will also be sent a notification about it. In support of these claims, two screenshots of alleged notifications are also being circulated on social media.

Fact-Check
An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team found that the claims of account owners receiving notifications for Facebook profile visits or story screenshots are not true. In reality, this false claim has been spread on the internet without any reliable source and using fabricated screenshots.
Verification of the First Claim
The first claim states that if a user visits another’s Facebook profile, Facebook will send a notification to the profile owner. A screenshot of an alleged notification has also been circulated with this claim. However, the investigation found no truth to this claim.
Facebook’s Help Center states that Facebook does not let people know who has viewed their profile. Third-party apps also cannot provide this information. Instead, Facebook advises reporting any app or website that makes such a claim.
In other words, Facebook has no such feature. Therefore, the claim of Facebook sending such a notification is baseless. Consequently, the screenshot circulated with this claim is fake and fabricated.
Verification of the Second Claim
The second claim states that if someone takes a screenshot of someone’s Facebook story, the story owner will be sent a notification. A screenshot of an alleged notification has also been circulated with this claim. However, the investigation found no truth to this claim either.
A report published on August 30 on the technology website Android Authority mentions that Facebook generally does not send notifications for screenshots, whether in the Facebook app or Messenger. The only exception is Messenger’s disappearing messages feature. In this feature, a notification is sent if someone takes a screenshot in an end-to-end encrypted chat.
The same information was found in a report published last February by the technology website Online Tech Tips. It states that there is no notification feature for taking screenshots of Facebook Stories. The report only mentions this notification feature for end-to-end encrypted messages in Messenger.
The Facebook Messenger Help Center states that in the disappearing messages feature, messages are automatically deleted after a set time, and notifications are sent if someone takes a screenshot or screen recording in an end-to-end encrypted chat. However, there is no mention in the Help Center of such a notification feature for screenshots or recordings of Facebook Stories.
The Help Center provides separate information for each feature. While the notification feature for disappearing messages is clearly stated, there is no such feature mentioned for Stories, which confirms that no notification is sent for taking screenshots of Stories.
In other words, Facebook does not send any notifications for taking screenshots of Stories. Therefore, the screenshot circulated with this claim is also fake and fabricated.
If Facebook had launched two new features like this, it would have been reported in domestic and international media. But no such reports were found.
The Rumor Scanner team also verified these claims using their own Facebook accounts. It was found that no notifications are sent for profile visits or story screenshots.
Therefore, the claim that account owners receive notifications for Facebook profile visits or story screenshots is completely false.
