Fact-Check
An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team found that the claim that the Awami League is regaining its registration under a UN directive is not true; rather, the UN has no such authority to issue such a directive. Moreover, the video circulated with the claim is from a different event in 2024.
An investigation into this matter found no news in the media or reliable sources regarding any such directive from the United Nations. After being ousted from power in August of last year following protests, the interim government suspended the Awami League’s activities by executive order. Additionally, the Election Commission suspended the party’s registration and its party symbol, the boat. This information is known from an October 07 report by BBC Bangla. On the other hand, the video circulated in this regard has been online since before that. This confirms that the claim is false. Furthermore, the authority to cancel or restore registration rests solely with the Election Commission. The United Nations has no jurisdiction to interfere in this matter.
A subsequent investigation into the circulated video found a match with a live video from Nagorik TV dated August 08, 2024. The video was actually of the oath-taking ceremony of the advisers to the interim government.

A report from The Daily Star states that Dr. Muhammad Yunus took oath as the Chief Adviser of the interim government, along with several other advisers, on that day.
In other words, this video has no connection to the Awami League regaining its registration.
Therefore, the claim that the Awami League is regaining its registration under a UN directive is false.
