Rumor Scanner received the ‘Positive Influencer Award’

For its role in countering rumors spread on the internet regarding the new curriculum, the fact-checking organization Rumor Scanner was honored with the ‘Positive Influencer Award’.

This recognition was presented on Saturday, 9th December 2023, at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy. The event was organized by Leadswin Limited. Md Sakiuzzaman, co-founder of Rumor Scanner, along with five other members of the organization, were awarded an honorarium and a crest. This presentation was made by Professor Md. Moshiuzzaman, a member of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), and Professor Dr. Mohammad Tariq Ahsan from the Education and Research Institute of Dhaka University. The occasion was part of the 2023 conference titled ‘Building Smart Bangladesh and Global Citizen Formation Suitable for the Fourth Industrial Revolution through the Implementation of the New Education Curriculum’.

In his speech at the event, Md Sakiuzzaman, co-founder of Rumor Scanner, mentioned, “Along with other sectors, Rumor Scanner consistently works to address misinformation about the education sector spread on the internet. In 2023, Rumor Scanner identified nearly 100 rumors related to the education sector, including the new curriculum. He emphasized the need for cooperation from all educational authorities to combat rumors in the sector.

The Eduman project, developed by technology firm Leadswin Limited, is undertaking efforts to digitalize the education system across the nation.

It is important to note that recently, several videos falsely claiming to depict teacher training under Bangladesh’s new curriculum have gone viral on the internet. To date, Rumor Scanner has fact-checked and published reports on five of these videos, titled ‘Tiling Tiling Cycle Cholai’, ‘Ore O Kola Bang’, ‘Jhinga Lala Hu’, ‘Pak Pak Dak’, and ‘Mummy Ki Roti Gol Gol’.
