Fact-check
Rumor Scanner’s investigation found that the claim of recovering weapons looted from a police station in July–August 2024 from a mosque after one year is false. In reality, the weapons looted from Khilgaon Police Station were recovered on August 7, 2024, gathered in a mosque, and handed over to the army by aware locals. Those old photos are now being spread with a false claim.
In this investigation, through reverse search, the photos circulated with this claim were found in a post published on August 7, 2024, on a Facebook page called Al-Jamiyatul Ah’liya Ummatul Mu’minin Mohila Madrasa.

From the caption of that post, it is known that various weapons looted from Khilgaon Police Station were recovered at that time, gathered in the mosque, and handed over to the army by the locals.
Later, based on this information, through a relevant keyword search, a report titled “Locals returned more than a hundred weapons looted from Khilgaon Police Station” published on August 7, 2024, was found on the website of the electronic media outlet Channel24. The same photos were also found attached to that report.

From the detailed part of that report, it is known that more than a hundred firearms looted from the capital’s Khilgaon Police Station were recovered from Khilgaon Imanbag Jame Mosque and handed over to the Bangladesh Army. On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, these firearms were returned with the cooperation of the locals.
That is, these weapons, looted from the Khilgaon Police Station, were not recently recovered; rather, they were recovered in August 2024.
It is noteworthy that on the night of August 9, the Bangladesh Army recovered approximately 1,100 sharp weapons, including samurai swords and machetes, in an operation in three shops in the capital’s New Market area. The recovered weapons include samurai swords, machetes, Chinese axes, Bangla axes, knives, and meat hammers.
Therefore, the claim that the weapons looted from a police station in July–August 2024 were recently recovered from a mosque after one year is false.
