Land Dispute Between Two Hindu Families Falsely Portrayed as Communal Clash

Recently, a video circulated on social media claimed a planned attack on the Khulna representative of the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, Akash Mistri’s house. The claim alleged that on December 28, houses were vandalized and looted, and victims included Niranjan Chandra Mistri, Shova Rani, Nayan Chandra Mistri, and Niva Rani. It further accused individuals from the current ruling party of being responsible.

Fact-Check

The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation revealed that the claim of a planned attack on Akash Mistri’s house by the interim government is false. The incident was actually a land dispute between two Hindu families, misrepresented to support the communal violence narrative

Upon analyzing the circulated video, it was observed that both women involved in the conflict wore shankha (traditional bangles typically worn by Hindu women).

Further investigation into the incident’s location revealed a post shared on December 28, 2024, in a Facebook group called Krishna Sangher Adda, by an account named Showrab Gangully Sakal. The post, shared by an account named Showrab Gangully Sakal, can be found here. A comment by an account named Sh Sujoy caught the attention of the Rumor Scanner team.

In his comment, SH Sujoy explained that the conflict was between his father-in-law and his father-in-law’s uncle over a piece of land. Years ago, his father-in-law purchased the land from his uncle, but no formal deed was registered at the time. For the next 10–12 years, the uncle held possession of the land using political influence. Following a change in government, a village arbitration was called, initially favoring the uncle due to the absence of proper documentation from Sujoy’s father-in-law. However, once the documents were presented, the land was awarded to Sujoy’s father-in-law. The incident occurred when his father-in-law tried to demolish the cowshed built on the land, leading to an argument. The video shows this argument. Sujoy clarified that no Muslims were involved and that the arbitration committee was neutral. The event solely involved two Hindu families.

In a statement to Rumor Scanner, SH Sujoy reaffirmed that the incident was solely a dispute over land between two Hindu families.

The Rumor Scanner team also contacted Akash Mistri, who confirmed that the conflict was between two Hindu families over a land dispute. However, he alleged that some influential Muslims in the area supported the opposing family.

Conclusion

The incident involving a land dispute between two Hindu families is being falsely portrayed as a planned attack on a Hindu leader’s house by the interim government. This claim is entirely false.
