An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team has revealed that the claim of a woman being murdered and hanged for not wearing a hijab and burqa in Jajira Upazila, Shariatpur District, is false. Instead, the woman in the video has been identified as Mocha Kakoli Akter, a Muslim. Preliminary police investigations suggest that she may have died by suicide.

According to the photocard and its caption, the police recovered the hanging body of a young woman in Purbo Naodoba Union, which falls under the jurisdiction of Padma Bridge (South) Police Station. The deceased, Mst. Kakoli Akter, was the daughter of Julhas Madbor from Haji Zahed Ali Madbor Kandi village in Purbo Naodoba Union.
The police suspect that she may have taken her own life due to a personal relationship issue.
Later, the online news portal Desherpotro published a report on January 27 titled ‘Young Woman’s Hanging Body Recovered in Shariatpur.’ According to the report, on the morning of January 27, the police from Padma Setu South Police Station recovered the hanging body of a young woman in Purbo Naodoba Union, under their jurisdiction. Police sources confirm that the deceased, Kakoli Akter, was the daughter of Julhas Madbor from Haji Zahed Ali Madbor Kandi village in Jajira Upazila, Shariatpur District. The initial assumption is that Mocha Kakoli Akter took her own life due to a personal relationship matter.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Setu South Police Station, Akram Hossain, stated in the report that upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body and conducted a preliminary inquest. However, the initial investigation did not yield any conclusive findings. The body was sent for an autopsy, and further details will be disclosed once the report is available.
For further verification, the Rumor Scanner team contacted the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Setu South Police Station, Akram Hossain. He confirmed that the deceased was a Muslim woman named Mst. Kakoli Akter, also known as Munni, aged 16, and the daughter of Julhas Madbor.
He also stated that the claim being spread is propaganda.
Conclusion
The claim that a Muslim woman in Jajira Upazila, Shariatpur, was falsely misrepresented as Hindu is entirely false.
