Fact-check
Rumor Scanner Team’s investigation reveals that the incident of a schoolgirl named Nila Roy being murdered in Savar for rejecting a love proposal is not recent; rather, a 2020 incident is being circulated without mentioning the time frame.
At the start of the investigation, an analysis of the discussed post showed that the name of the deceased schoolgirl is Nila Roy, her father’s name is Narayan Roy, and the accused is Mizanur Rahman. Based on these details, a keyword search was conducted in news media and reliable sources, but no information about such an incident occurring recently was found.
However, on September 21, 2020, the national daily Kaler Kantho published a report titled, “Rejected love proposal, girl taken from brother and murdered in Savar.“.
According to this report, on September 20, 2020, in Savar, a schoolgirl named Nila Roy (14) was allegedly stabbed to death by a young man for rejecting a love proposal. The deceased Nila was the daughter of Narayan Roy from Balirtek, Manikganj district. She lived with her family in a rented house in the municipal area of Kazi Mokmapara and was a tenth-grade student at the local Acced School. The accused young man was Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury (25).
