Fact-Check
Rumor Scanner’s investigation confirmed that the video circulated with the claim of the rape and murder of a Hindu woman is not from Bangladesh. Instead, it is an old incident from India. The video dates back to February 23, 2024, when the body of a woman named Mousumi Mandal was recovered from a corn field in Baishnabnagar, West Bengal, India.
In the investigation, a reverse image search led to a post from an X (formerly Twitter) account named Amit Malviya, dated February 24, 2024. The post included a video of the same incident and criticized the West Bengal government. From the post, it is clear that the incident took place in West Bengal, India. The post mentioned: “…Yesterday, Mousumi Mandal, 27 years, mother of two kids, was found in a corn field in Shabdulpur, a border village under the Baishnabnagar Assembly..”

A video report about the incident was found, which included the circulated video. The caption of the post translates to: “The body of a housewife was recovered from the corn field, half-naked, in Malda. The incident took place in the Sarkarpara area of Bakhrabad Gram Panchayat under Baishnabnagar Police Station. It is known that the housewife came to inspect her land around noon on this day.”

Later, we found a report published by the Indian media outlet Hindustan Times in Bengali on February 24, 2024. The report states: “In a corn field in Dui Shat Bigha village, under the Char-Anantapur Gram Panchayat of Baishnabnagar police station, the throat-slit body of a housewife was recovered. The deceased was identified as Mousumi Mandal. Her body was discovered by two teenagers while they were herding goats. According to the family, the woman had visited her parental home four days earlier. On Friday, she went to check the family land but went missing afterward. Her body was recovered by Baishnabnagar police. The family suspects she was sexually assault and murdered.”
So, an old video of a woman’s dead body found in a corn field in India was shared as an incident of rape and murder of a Hindu woman in Bangladesh. Therefore, the claim that a Hindu woman in Bangladesh was gang-raped and killed is false.
