Fact Check
An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team revealed that the circulated video does not depict the murder of a Hindu individual but instead shows the killing of a Muslim man.
During the investigation, a video (here) dated October 1 was found shared on a Facebook page named “Mujib Force.” The caption claimed that a man was murdered in broad daylight by throat-slitting at Eidgah Maidan in Kauria Para, Narsingdi.
Further investigation revealed reports of the incident in mainstream media, including Bangla Tribune, Jugantor, and Dhaka Post.
Reports confirmed that on October 1, a 35-year-old man named Hanif Mia was publicly hacked to death in Narsingdi following a family feud. The incident occurred around 2:30 PM in front of Eidgah Maidan in Kauria Para after Hanif had attended a neighbor’s funeral around 1 PM. Hanif was the son of Abdul Kader from the Chowala area of Narsingdi municipality, and his mother’s name was Sayera Begum.
In short, the victim, Hanif Mia, was not Hindu.
According to a recent report by The Daily Star (Read here), Hanif was the son of Abdul Kader from the Chowala area of Narsingdi municipality. About one and a half months before the incident, Hanif had killed his uncle, Md. Habib Ullah, by hitting him with an iron rod over a family dispute.
Hanif’s family and the police reported that Hanif’s cousins, Naim and Nadim, attacked him in retaliation for their father’s murder. They publicly hacked him with a Chinese axe, and when Hanif collapsed, they ensured his death by slitting his throat with a sharp knife before fleeing.
On October 4, Hanif’s mother, Sahera Begum, filed a murder case against four individuals at Narsingdi Sadar Police Station (case number: 2). Accused Naim (30) and Nadim (25) are currently in custody for this case.
Conclusion
The claim that the video depicts the murder of a Hindu individual is false; it shows the killing of a Muslim man.
