Fact Check
Rumor Scanner Team’s investigation reveals that Bhumika Mondal’s disappearance had no relation to communal issues. In reality, due to a family dispute, she voluntarily left her home and went into hiding. Later, she was found.
During this investigation, a post was found on a profile named Shamim Ul Alam Shamim, who identified himself as a friend of Bhumika Mondal’s two maternal uncles.

In the post titled “Missing Notice,” it was stated that Bhumika Mondal went missing from her in-laws’ house in Srinagar on July 3. Due to a family dispute, she left the house and went missing. A general diary (GD) was filed at the Srinagar Police Station regarding the incident. A mobile phone number was provided in the post for anyone to contact in case they had information about her.
Later, the caption of the post was edited to update that Bhumika Mondal had been found.
When the Rumor Scanner Team contacted the number given in the mentioned post, it was confirmed to be the mobile phone number of Bhumika Mondal’s brother, Prosonjit Mondal Joy. He stated, “Due to a family dispute at her in-laws’ home, Bhumika Mondal left that house on July 3. After that, she stayed in hiding at our aunt’s house, but neither Bhumika nor our aunt informed any other family members. Though a GD was filed at Srinagar Police Station, before any official action was taken, on July 8 Bhumika was found by her family members. She is well.”
Therefore, the incident of Bhumika Mondal going into hiding has been falsely presented as a case of communal disappearance and alleged inaction by law enforcement—this is misleading.
