AI video shared claiming Indian passenger plane crashed at sea

Recently, a video has been circulated online where a woman is heard speaking in Hindi from inside a purported plane surrounded by water, saying, “I don’t know which sea the plane has crashed (met with an accident) in. If anyone sees this video, please share it everywhere.” The video has been circulated with the claim that it is an authentic video of an Indian passenger plane sinking into the sea.

Fact-Check

An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team found that the circulated video is not an authentic video of an Indian passenger plane sinking into the sea; rather, this fake video, created with the help of artificial intelligence, has been circulated with the claim of being real.

An investigation into this matter, involving reverse image searches of multiple keyframes from the circulated video, found no evidence from domestic or foreign (especially Indian) mainstream media or reliable sources to support the authenticity of the video. In fact, if a plane crash of this nature occurred and passengers recorded such an authentic video, it would have been widely broadcast by domestic and international media.

Furthermore, observation of the circulated video reveals abnormalities in the movement of the water and the people inside the plane, the condition of the aircraft, and the overall surrounding environment, which are typically seen in videos created with artificial intelligence technology.

Further observation of the video shows a watermark reading ‘Sora’. ‘Sora‘ is a video and audio generation model created by OpenAI, the US-based artificial intelligence research institution and owner of ChatGPT. This model is capable of creating realistic, physically accurate, and sound-integrated scenes. ‘Sora 2’, an advanced version based on the original 2024 Sora model, was released on September 30, 2025.

To be further assured, the video was analyzed on the AI and deepfake content detection platform ‘DeepFake-O-Meter‘, where the video in question showed a high probability of being fake. According to the analysis of the platform’s ‘AVSRDD’ detector, the probability of the video being fake or AI-generated is 100 percent. Additionally, an analysis of the video on another AI content detection platform, ‘Hive Moderation‘, found the probability of it being AI-generated content to be approximately 99.9 percent.

This confirms that the circulated video was created using AI or artificial intelligence technology.

Therefore, an AI-generated video has been circulated with the claim that it is an authentic video of an Indian passenger plane sinking into the sea; which is false.
