Video of a Woman Injured by Fireworks in Brazil Shared Claiming to Be Iranian Missile Strike

In the context of the recent conflict between Iran and Israel in the Middle East, a video has recently been circulated on Facebook with the title: “Why are Iranian missiles so evil, they strike such sensitive areas… what kind of target is this!?”

In the video, a couple is seen leaning out of an open window together. As they look down, bright fireworks light up the street, and then a stray firework strikes the woman’s chest, causing her to scream in pain and pull back from the window.

Fact-Check

Rumor Scanner team’s investigation revealed that the circulated video does not show an Iranian missile striking a person’s body. Instead, the video shows a stray firework hitting a woman’s chest while watching New Year’s fireworks in Brazil this year. This video is being spread with a false claim.

In this regard, a report was found on the U.S.-based media outlet New York Post, published on January 2, 2025, titled: “Shocking video shows woman receiving third-degree burns to the chest from New Year’s fireworks”. The visuals in the attached video in this report closely resemble the video being circulated with the claim.

Comparison: Rumor Scanner

According to the report, 27-year-old Bianca Miranda was watching the New Year’s celebration from her apartment in Navegantes, in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, with her husband. At that moment, a stray firework hit her chest and hand, resulting in third-degree burns on her chest.

On this issue, a report with the same video and information was also found on the website of UK-based media outlet Daily Mail, titled: “Woman’s breasts are burned by stray NYE firework after leaning out of her apartment window”.

That is, the circulated video is not related to the Iran-Israel conflict.

Therefore, a video showing a woman being struck by a stray firework during New Year’s celebrations in Brazil is being spread with the false claim that it shows an Iranian missile hitting a person — which is false.
