Video of Ukrainian Drone Attack in Russia Shared as Footage of U.S. Strike on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

Amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, the United States conducted strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities, including Fordow, using B-2 stealth bombers on June 22. In this context, a video claiming to depict footage of the U.S. bombing of the Fordow nuclear facility has been widely shared on social media.

Fact-check

Rumor Scanner Team’s investigation reveals that the video in question does not depict a U.S. strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Rather, it shows a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Tver region in 2024.

In this investigation, the same video was found in a post published on the Instagram profile of Ukrainian news outlet Kyiv Post on September 18 last year: Instagram post. The caption of the post states that the video shows a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Tver region.

Comparison: Rumor Scanner

On September 19, Al Jazeera’s Facebook page shared footage of a Ukrainian drone strike on a weapons depot in Russia’s Tver region, which corresponds to the video in question.

A report by Deutsche Welle (DW) on September 21 stated that Ukraine’s military had conducted drone attacks on Russian military depots in the Tver and Krasnodar regions. Russian authorities reported that the attack caused fires in Krasnodar and, due to the risk of explosion, nearby residents were evacuated.

Therefore, a video of a Ukrainian drone attack on a Russian weapons depot is circulated as footage of a U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, which is false.
