Recently, on January 1, a post was made from an X account named Times Algebra, claiming that the Bangladesh government had banned Hindus from entering government jobs. The post further alleged that the interim government restricted the recruitment of Hindus for all government positions, including constable roles in the Bangladesh Police. It further claimed that the job applications of 1,500 Hindu candidates had been canceled and that 100 Hindu officers were dismissed from their jobs. The post also claimed that Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated, ‘Bangladesh is a Muslim-majority country, so whether in the police or government jobs, Muslims will be given priority.’

Fact-Check
Rumor Scanner’s investigative team confirmed the claim about a ban on Hindus entering government jobs to be false. In reality, this claim is entirely baseless and was propagated without any evidence.
IAn investigation into the alleged statement by Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury found no evidence supporting the claim. Keyword searches across media outlets and reliable sources yielded no evidence of him making such remarks.
Additionally, no information was found in the media or other reliable sources to substantiate claims about the cancellation of 1,500 Hindu applicants’ applications or the dismissal of 100 Hindu officers from government jobs.
Further investigation found a post from January 2 on the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing Facebook page, titled “CA Press Wing Facts.” The post addressed the claims made in the Times Algebra post, stating that the claims were entirely fabricated. The quoted statement attributed to the Home Affairs Advisor was also denied as false. The post further clarified, “The Bangladesh government does not discriminate against any citizen based on religion.”
