Fact Check
Investigations by the Rumor Scanner team revealed that the body recovered from the pond in Bagmara, Rajshahi, belonged to a Muslim man named Nayan Mia, not a Hindu individual. No conclusive cause of death has been determined, leaving it unclear whether it was natural or foul play.
Upon examining the circulated video with reverse image search of several keyframes, a video was found, initially posted from a Facebook account named Md Israfil Pitu, at 1 AM on December 22 (Video Link). This video matches the one circulating with the claims.

The caption of the Facebook post reads: “Today, in Machmoil village, Bagmara Upazila, Rajshahi district, the body of a young man named Nayan was found.”
A report (Link) titled “Van Driver’s Body Recovered from Pond in Bagmara, Rajshahi,” published on December 21 by the mainstream news website Daily Inqilab, was identified using relevant keywords.
Using relevant keywords, a report was found on the mainstream news website Daily Inqilab, published on December 21, titled “Van Driver’s Body Recovered from Pond in Bagmara, Rajshahi” (News Link). According to the report: “The police recovered the body of a drug user and van driver, Nayan Mia (38), from a pond in Bagmara, Rajshahi. He was the son of Afaz Uddin from Boropukur village, Machmoil, Suvodanga Union.” This confirms that the deceased, based on both his and his father’s names, was a Muslim, not a Hindu.
The report further mentions that the body was discovered in the afternoon of December 21 (Saturday). According to police and the family, on the previous day (Friday), Nayan Mia had taken a bag from his wife to go shopping at Machmoil market. After shopping, while returning via the road adjacent to the pond near Machmoil Government Primary School, he fell into the water. Police suspect that Nayan Mia, under the influence of drugs, fell into the water with his bag while walking along the pond’s edge. Local residents share similar opinions. However, some believe that thugs might have robbed him and pushed him into the water. It is also suspected that they might attempt to seize his tea stall. To prevent complaints, the police prepared the body for autopsy after recovery.
Additionally, Bagmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhidul Islam stated in the report that Nayan Mia’s death was likely due to drug use. However, the body has been prepared for autopsy to ascertain the actual cause. An unnatural death case has been filed.
Two other Rajshahi-based media outlets, Padma Times24 (Report Link) and Sonar Desh (Report Link), corroborate the same information.
To confirm further, the Rumor Scanner team contacted Bagmara Police Station OC Mohammad Touhidul Islam, who affirmed that the circulating claim is false. He confirmed that the autopsy did not find any evidence suggesting that Nayan was murdered. Additionally, based on his knowledge, Nayan Mia was a Muslim. He had not encountered any information indicating that Nayan Mia was Hindu.
In conclusion, the body recovered from the pond in Rajshahi belonged to a Muslim man, and the exact circumstances of his death remain unclear..
Conclusion
The body recovered in Rajshahi was identified as a Muslim man, Nayan Mia. The circumstances of his death remain unclear. Hence, the claim that a Hindu man was murdered by Jamaat-e-Islami is false.
