Recently, on social media, a photo was circulated claiming that English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa wore the Bangladesh cricket team jersey.

FACT-CHECK

The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation found that the photo circulated claiming Dua Lipa wore the Bangladesh cricket team jersey is not authentic. Instead, the image was generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology by altering another photo of Dua Lipa.

No credible news outlet or reliable source reported the existence of such an image. In reality, if an internationally popular figure like Dua Lipa had promoted such a photo, it would have been widely reported in Bangladeshi media.

Moreover, on closer inspection, inconsistencies are visible in the circulated photo. For example, although it appears to be a mirror selfie, the “BANGLADESH” text on the jersey is not reversed. Additionally, slight distortions in Dua Lipa’s features are noticeable — a common occurrence in AI-generated content.

Later, when investigating Dua Lipa’s Instagram account, we found a post published on 29 August with the caption “🖤 NOLA 🖤,” containing 19 photos. Comparing the 7th photo from that post with the circulated AI-generated one shows clear similarities in Dua Lipa’s bag, surroundings, and posture (excluding the jersey), confirming that the viral image was artificially created using that original photo.

Furthermore, in Dua Lipa’s original photo she is looking slightly upward to the left, while in the circulated version she is looking unusually straight ahead — another sign of manipulation.

To further verify, the AI-content detection platform Hive Moderation analyzed the image and concluded that there was a 99.9% probability it was generated using AI. Another AI-content detection platform, DeepFake-O-Meter, also indicated a high likelihood that the circulated photo was artificially generated or fake.

Therefore, it is confirmed that the circulated image was created using AI technology by altering a different photo of Dua Lipa.

Hence, the claim that Dua Lipa wore the Bangladesh cricket team jersey is Edited.
