Rumor Scanner team’s investigation finds that the girl seen in the video claimed to be “a Hindu girl raped and murdered’’ is not Hindu. Rather, the incident shown in the video involves a Muslim schoolgirl who was raped and killed in the Kaliganj area of Lalmonirhat.
Upon investigating the claim, the video was found through reverse image search on a Facebook account named Bairagi Chalanbil, where the same video was posted on April 17. You can see it here.
From the video’s title, it is known that this is footage of the body recovery of a 12-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Kaliganj, Lalmonirhat district.
Later, using information obtained from the video, a keyword search led to a report on April 17 by the online news platform Uttarbongger Songbad titled “Student’s body recovered from cornfield in Lalmonirhat.”
Reviewing the report shows that the corpse shown in the video matches the photo used as the feature image of the article. The report reveals that on April 16, the body of a sixth-grade schoolgirl was found in a cornfield in Shailmarir Char area, under Bhotmari Union of Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat. The report also mentions that the girl is suspected to have been raped before being killed. Additionally, the names of the girl and her father mentioned in the report confirm that she was Muslim.
Conclusion
Therefore, a video of the murder of a Muslim girl child in Lalmonirhat is being falsely shared claiming it shows the rape and murder of a Hindu girl by hardline Muslims in Bangladesh; this is completely false.
