Old Chattogram Video Shared as Uttara Plane Crash Survival

On Monday (21 July), a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka. A video is being circulated on social media with the claim that it shows the pilot descending by parachute.

Fact-check

Upon investigation by the Rumor Scanner team, it was found that the circulated video is not related to the Uttara jet crash tragedy. Instead, it shows two pilots ejecting with parachutes after a Bangladesh Air Force training fighter aircraft crashed in May 2024. The video is being shared with this false claim.

Through reverse image search during the investigation, Rumor Scanner found the same footage on the mainstream media outlet Deepto TV’s YouTube channel. The video, published on 9 May 2024, shows the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft in Patenga, Chattogram.

A report published on the website of Bangla Tribune on the same day confirms that the incident occurred in the morning at the confluence of the Karnaphuli River in Patenga, Chattogram.

Therefore, an old video from Chattogram is being circulated with the false claim that it shows the pilot surviving the recent aircraft crash in Uttara; this claim is misleading.
