Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi Did Not Declare Sheikh Hasina the Legitimate Prime Minister

A video has been shared on Facebook with the caption: “Egypt’s President Al-Sisi has declared Sheikh Hasina as the legitimate Prime Minister.” The video was first circulated from a Facebook profile named Tamanna Akhter Yesman. The same video has also been shared by several other Facebook accounts.

Fact-check

Rumor Scanner’s investigation found that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi did not declare Sheikh Hasina, the deposed Prime Minister of Bangladesh, as the legitimate Prime Minister.

In reality, the video being shared is from 2019 and shows Yemen’s then-Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed during his official visit to the United Arab Emirates.

During the investigation, a video published on June 14, 2019, by Yemeni media outlet Al-Ghad Al-Mashreq was found. The visuals in this video match those in the viral clip.

Comparison: Rumor Scanner

The video’s title stated: “The Prime Minister has concluded his successful visit to the United Arab Emirates.” (translated from Arabic), referring to Yemen’s then-Prime Minister Dr. Maeen Abdulmalik.

Additionally, Yemeni outlet Alwaqa Aljadeed published a report on June 15, 2019, under the same headline, accompanied by the same images and details.

It is also worth noting that the Facebook account named “Tamanna Akhter Yesman” is fake. On June 19, Rumor Scanner published a fact story revealing that this account was using the photo of UAE’s Minister of State Reem Al Hashimy, in an attempt to spread pro-Awami League propaganda.

Conclusion

The claim that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi declared Sheikh Hasina as the legitimate Prime Minister of Bangladesh is entirely false. The video being circulated is actually from Yemen in 2019 and shows the then-Prime Minister of Yemen, not Sheikh Hasina.
