Fact-check

Rumor Scanner’s investigation found that the widely discussed chair is not made from human body parts. It is actually an artwork created by an artist named Kayla Arena.

As part of the investigation, a reverse image search of the image used in the claim led to a Facebook post published on May 22, 2016, by the account Kayla Arena Fx, titled “This is my first Ed Gein chair which is still reaching millions of people to this day”. The image in the post is an exact match with the one used in the circulating claim.

From the caption of the post, it is learned that the artist Kayla Arena created a very popular item called the Ed Gein chair, which many people liked and which sold as expected.

Based on that information, a keyword search led to a report published on the AFP Fact Check website which confirmed the same information.

In other words, this is not a chair made from various parts of a human body.

In addition, an observation of Kayla Arena’s Facebook page reveals several similar artworks (one, two, three) which are displayed for sale.

It is worth noting that Ed Gein was an American serial killer whose horrific crimes gained global notoriety and inspired countless books and horror films.

Therefore, an artwork created by an artist has been falsely promoted online as a real chair made from various parts of the human body — which is false.
