Investigation by the Rumor Scanner team revealed that Tesla has made no announcements regarding launching a phone called Tesla Pi. This claim has been circulating on the internet since at least 2017. While a YouTube video in 2021 rekindled the claim, it specifically stated that the notion was not related to Tesla. Tesla has not yet announced any phone launches.
This claim originated in 2017, when Jeremy Smith, a 3D animation designer, posted a conceptual design for a Tesla phone on his YouTube channel “Concept Creator.” This looks to be the origin of the notion that has propagated over the internet.
A look at Jeremy Smith’s channel reveals that he primarily reviews smartphones and technology devices. He often makes and releases idea designs that are not linked with the companies.
Based on these findings, it appears that this video served as the primary source of the widespread claims that followed. Despite no official confirmation from Tesla, media outlets and electronics vendors later began sharing information about the Tesla Pi phone, relying on the design and features presented in the video.
It has been confirmed that neither Tesla nor Elon Musk has ever made any announcements regarding a Tesla Pi smartphone, either recently or in the past. In fact, during a livestream in June, Elon Musk explicitly stated, “We are not going to make a Tesla phone,” reaffirming that the company has no plans to enter the smartphone market.
Hence, the notion that Tesla will release a Tesla Pi smartphone this year is nothing more than an old rumor resurfacing online, and it is misleading.
