Fact Check
Investigations by the Rumor Scanner Team revealed that the widely-shared video, allegedly showing Shakib facing negative reactions post-World Cup, is actually from an unrelated earlier event. The footage dates back to March of the current year, capturing Shakib’s visit to Dubai for a gold shop opening, which drew a crowd of expatriates. No disrespectful behavior towards Shakib was recorded at this event. However, the video was digitally altered to include the phrase ‘hit him’, to support the recent narrative. .
Video Verification
The investigation began with the detection of Somoy TV’s logo in the video’s top left corner. Pursuing this clue led to Somoy TV’s YouTube channel, SomoyTVBulletin, where a matching video titled “Such behavior with Shakib in Dubai by expatriates! (দুবাইয়ে সাকিবের সঙ্গে প্রবাসীদের এ কেমন আচরণ!)” was found, posted on March 17. This footage also appeared on RTV and Bayanno TV‘s YouTube channels.

Further research on Somoy TV’s website uncovered a March 16 report titled “Shakib inaugurates controversial gold shop (বিতর্কিত সেই স্বর্ণের দোকান উদ্বোধন করলেন সাকিব)”. This detailed Shakib’s presence at the opening of a jewelry shop in Dubai Gold Souk, owned by Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan, a gold trader and fugitive murder suspect. The event drew a large crowd that evening.
Prothom Alo‘s August report also covered the disorder at the gold shop’s inauguration in Dubai.
Audio Verification
The investigation into the ‘hit him’ background audio revealed it as a line from the drama ‘Rock (রক)’, featuring actor Mosharraf Karim, specifically at 54 minutes and 39 seconds.
Additionally, no reports surfaced in local or international media about Shakib being harassed post-World Cup. However, during the World Cup, Shakib faced jeers of ‘fake, fake’ from spectators at Mirpur Indoor Stadium after a training session. This, however, is unrelated to the video in question.
Bottom Line
A video from Shakib Al Hasan’s March visit to Dubai for a gold shop opening, owned by the controversial businessman Arav Khan, was doctored with added audio to falsely suggest Shakib faced backlash for his World Cup performance. Thus, repurposing an old, unrelated video to link it to the World Cup and allege recent harassment of Shakib Al Hasan by supporters is false.
