Fact-check
The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation found that the circulated video is not from India. In reality, a video of a recent protest in Nepal has been shared with the false claim that it shows anti-Modi protests in India.
In investigating this, a reverse image search of several keyframes from the viral video led to a video posted on an X account named ‘African Hub’ on September 11. This video matches the one being circulated with the false claim.

The video’s description states that it shows the moment protesters in Nepal overpowered police officers.
Following this lead, a relevant keyword search led to a report published on the website of the international news outlet ‘CBC News’ on September 8, titled “At least 19 killed as police open fire on Nepal protests over corruption, social media ban.”

According to the information from that report, at least 19 people were killed and over a hundred were injured after police opened fire on a youth-led protest in Nepal against corruption and a social media ban. The movement is being described as “Gen-Z” led, reflecting the deep frustration of the country’s youth with corruption, unemployment, and government repression, as mentioned in the report.
Notably, this youth-led protest in Nepal led to the fall of the KP Sharma Oli-led government, and Sushila Karki was sworn in as the new prime minister of the interim government. The newly appointed Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, has stated that she will not remain in office for more than six months and will hand over power to the government formed after the country’s national elections on March 5 of next year.
Therefore, A video of protesters clashing with police in Nepal has been circulated as recent anti-Modi protests in India; which is false.
