On Tuesday, December 2, in Agartala, India, supporters of several organizations, including the Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, attacked the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh, vandalizing the premises and desecrating the Bangladeshi national flag.
Following this, a claim surfaced on social media alleging that protests were held outside the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, where Bangladeshi citizens reportedly threatened Indian officials and attempted to breach the building. A photograph purportedly depicting this alleged incident was widely circulated online.

Fact Check
An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team revealed that the photo does not depict a protest outside the Indian High Commission in Dhaka or any threats to Indian officials. Instead, the image is from a separate incident where Hefazat-e-Islam leaders submitted a memorandum to a District Commissioner (DC) in protest against “propaganda” by Indian media and politicians concerning Bangladesh.
Upon investigation, a Facebook post by Mohammad Sujon Miya, dated December 2, was discovered. The photo accompanying the post closely resembles the image in question. According to the caption, participants of a “long march” to the Indian Assistant High Commission were being served water by an Assistant Commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police.

Further keyword searches led to a bdnews24.com article published on December 2, titled “Hefazat Wants Positive Diplomatic Relations Between India and Bangladesh.” The report stated that Hefazat-e-Islam leaders handed a memorandum to District Commissioner Farida Khanam, requesting it be forwarded to the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chattogram. The photo was taken in front of the District Commissioner’s office in Chattogram, not in Dhaka.
Moreover, no credible local or international media reports substantiated claims of protests or threats outside the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
Following the attack on Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Agartala, security measures were heightened around the Indian Embassy area in Dhaka (source), with police and military personnel deployed to ensure safety.
Conclusion
An incident involving the submission of a memorandum at the Chattogram District Commissioner’s office, intended for the Indian Assistant High Commission, has been misrepresented as protests and threats outside the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. This claim is misleading.
