Fact Check

According to the Rumor Scanner’s investigation, the claim that Aurélien Tchouaméni posted on Facebook saying Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest of all time is not true, rather it was spread by a fake page created in his name, and Tchouaméni doesn’t use Facebook.

Origin of the rumor

Argentine footballer Lionel Messi won the FIFA men’s player of the year award ‘The Best’ on February 28, 2022. On the same day, a Facebook profile with a blue verified badge claimed to belong to French footballer Aurélien Tchouaméni posted that Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest of all time without any doubt. Archived versions of the post can be found here.

Based on the Facebook page’s post, a claim that Aurélien Tchouaméni had posted on Facebook saying “Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest of all time without any doubt” has gone viral on social media.

Rumor Scanner team analyzed the verified page created in Tchouaméni’s name to verify the authenticity of the claim. Upon checking the transparency section of the page, it was found that the page was created on December 5, 2021, and is managed by two individuals from Morocco and one from Egypt. However, Tchouaméni is a French footballer who plays for the French national football team and the Spanish football club Real Madrid, and he has no known connections to either of the countries from where the verified page is being run.

Moreover, it is common for players to share the same updates across all their verified social media accounts. However, in this particular instance, Tchouaméni’s other verified social media profiles did not share the same post as the one in question.

Further, Tchouaméni’s verified Twitter profile indicates that he does not maintain a Facebook account, as he has explicitly mentioned this in his Twitter bio.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the verified Facebook page in question is a fake profile created under the name of French football player Aurélien Tchouaméni.

Bottom Line

Basically, Argentine footballer Lionel Messi won the 2022 FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award on February 28. On the same day, a post from a verified fake Facebook profile, created under the name of French footballer Aurélien Tchouaméni, referred to Cristiano Ronaldo as the “greatest of all time.” The post went viral on social media, with even ESPN FC reporting on it. However, research conducted by the Rumor Scanner Team found that the verified Facebook page was a fake profile created under Tchouaméni’s name. His verified Twitter bio makes it clear that he does not have a Facebook account.

So, it can be concluded that the viral posts claiming that Aurélien Tchouaméni called Cristiano Ronaldo the “greatest of all time” on Facebook is completely false as the post was made from a verified fake Facebook profile created under Tchouaméni’s name.
