Recently, a video showing a severely injured woman sitting on the roadside and being questioned by locals has been circulating on social media. It is claimed that the video is from Bangladesh and depicts a Hindu woman who was tortured to death. Some posts also alleged that the woman was raped, and her tongue and lips were cut. The video went viral in Bangladesh as well, with claims that the incident occurred in Teknaf.

Fact-Check
Rumor Scanner found that the video and the murder incident of the woman are not from Bangladesh; the video is actually from India.
While investigating, we found a post on an Indian Facebook account that included another video of the severely injured woman from the same location. The caption indicates that the video is from West Bengal and mentions that the incident occurred in the village of Ojra, in the Maida area, under the jurisdiction of the Bakultala police station in the Joynagar assembly constituency of West Bengal.
Based on the location clues, we also found a YouTube video titled “Joynagar News: Bloodied body of unidentified woman recovered in paddy field in Bakultala, police investigating” (translated from Bangla to English), which was published on January 24. The video was used in their report with the footage blurred.
We also found the same video, which was blurred, in a video report from the Indian media outlet News 18 Bangla, uploaded on their YouTube channel. The title and description of the video mentioned the same location.
Later, we found a report on the incident on the News18 website. The report mentioned, “A woman was brutally murdered in the Bakultala police station area of Joynagar, causing a stir. On Tuesday night, a Toto rickshaw driver found a woman lying in a bloodied state on an empty paddy field road in the Anandpur Rathtala area of the Mayahauri Panchayat.
Eyewitnesses reported that the woman was stabbed with a weapon on her body, especially on one side of her face, which appeared to be crushed. Several of her teeth were also claimed to be broken. Locals mentioned that there was significant blood loss from the wound.
She was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. It is initially suspected that her death was due to excessive blood loss.”
So,the incident and video are from West Bengal, India; therefore, the claim that the incident is from Bangladesh is false.
