Video of Muslim Man’s Hanged Body from Madaripur Falsely Circulated as Hindu

Recently, a video of a man hanging from a mango tree has been circulating on social media, with claims suggesting that a Hindu man was found hanged in Bangladesh.

A social media account, @FarazPervaiz3, on X (formerly Twitter), shared the video with the caption: “Graphic Warning: Massacre of Hindus in Bangladesh. The body of a #Hindu man was found hanging from a tree in Madaripur, Bangladesh.”

Another account posted the same video with a Hindi caption, which, when translated, reads: “Muslims killed and hanged him because he was a Hindu. Madaripur incident: Thousands of Hindus were killed in Bangladesh.”

Some posts on X making this claim can be found here, here, here, and here.

Fact-Check

Rumor Scanner’s investigation has confirmed that the claim is false. The individual in the video is not Hindu but a Muslim. The video of the Muslim man’s hanging body from Madaripur has been falsely circulated to depict Hindu persecution by misrepresenting him as Hindu.

Through a keyword search, we found the same video clip on a Facebook account from Madaripur. The video had a Bengali caption, which Facebook translated as: “Madaripur Sadar Police Station has recovered the hanging body of a farmer named Mizan Sardar (52) who was hanging from a mango tree in East Chiraipara village of Ghatmajhi Union, Madaripur Sadar sub-district.”

Further investigation led us to a report by a news portal, Ajker Bangladesh, on the incident, which included a screengrab or picture of the hanged man as its article’s featured image. According to the report, the deceased’s name is Mizan Sardar, son of the late Abu Ali Sardar, from Banikpara village, Jhaudi Union, Madaripur Sadar Upazila.

Madaripur Sadar Police recovered the body of farmer Mizan Sardar, who was found hanging from an iron chain on a tree in a mango orchard on Saturday (December 28), in Purba Chiraipara village, Ghatmajhi Union, Madaripur Sadar Upazila.

Daily Observer reported on the incident, stating: “A farmer was found hanging with an iron chain from a mango tree in an orchard in Madaripur Sadar Upazila on Saturday. The deceased, Mizan Sardar, 50, son of the late Abu Ali Sardar, was a resident of Banikpara village in Jhaudi Union of the same Upazila.

According to family members and locals, Mizan left home on Friday night to attend a religious gathering (Waz Mahfil) near Tubia Bazaar and did not return home after the event. The next morning, around 11:00 AM, a child passing by noticed the body hanging from a mango tree and raised an alarm. Locals rushed to the scene and informed the police.”

To sum up, the hanging body of a Muslim man named Mizan Sardar was found in Madaripur. However, propaganda accounts falsely circulated a video of this Muslim man, misrepresenting him as a Hindu. So, the claim that the body of a Hindu man was found hanging from a tree in Madaripur is false.
